Anthonij Rupert Optima is truly a different South African wine!! A Bordeaux blend of Cabernet sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet franc and Petit verdot. The grapes were hand harvested and cold soaked early in the morning. It has the spice and softness of a Bordeaux from 18 months of ageing in new French oak barrels, the wines are blended and aged for another 6 months.

Medium plus aroma intensity of ripe plums, blackcurrant, slight earthy and tobacco leaf. Very silky tannins as you would expect after spending two years sitting in an oak barrel. A soft blackberries and ripe plum taste which keep its structure well.

An excellent value for money Bordeaux blend, it is well made, and smooth mouthfeel.

It was sold around £20 in my local wine merchant
