Jacques Selosse Review – Initial, Substance, Sous Le Monts, Contraste, Ratafia
A pleasure to partake in an extensive Selosse tasting, including the elusive Contrast (old Cote Faron) and Ratafia. The highlight for me was the 2005 disgorgement Substance (superlative complexity) and the 2010 disgorgement Initial, it is impressive how well Initial ages. Tasting Notes Initial One of the highlights of the Selosse tasting was this 2010 disgorgement Initial, it has gained a lot more complexity since release and it hasn’t lost any of its vibrancy. Bollinger Vieilles Vignes Francaises 2006
The Vieillies Vignes Françaises Blanc de Noirs is the prestigious cuvée of Bollinger, made exclusively from two single vineyards in Aÿ, Chaudes Terres and Clos St Jacques. These are the only two remaining vineyards of Bollinger that are untouched by phylloxera, 100% Pinot Noir, a total size of 0.36 hectares. Tasting Note Tasted blind – An intriguingly complex and vibrant profile of rich berries, exotic fruits, spiced brioche and vanilla. There is so much depth and concentration already just from the nose. Pinot driven flavours of red fruits, toasted nuts, and a lifted bouquet of spiced wood. Serious intensity and latent energy that resonates on the palate. Only 3,300 bottles…

Bernard de Nonancourt took over Laurent Perrier in 1948 after a three year apprenticeship with Delamotte and Lanson. Until the management of de Nonancourt, Laurent-Perrier turned into one of the biggest Champagne houses in the world, the sales increased by one hundredfold from…

History Created in 1843 by Johann-Joseph Krug, the son of a butcher in Mainz. Joseph Krug left Mainz at the age of 24 and started his career in Champagne Jacquesson as an accountant. After spending 8 years working for Jacquesson, he has traveled around Europe to various wine merchants and listened to customers’ criticism, by then, Joseph has already learnt a lot about Champagne blending. In 1841, Joseph got married and moved to Reims the year after. In 1843, Krug…
