Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

    April 28, 2018 /

Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande ( Pichon Lalande) is the best second Growth Chateau in Pauillac. The style of wine Pichon Lalande is atypical of Pauillac, generous amount of Merlot in the blend with a moderate use of new oak, one can say it is a feminine Pauillac. Originally Comtesse de Lalande was part of a large property called Chateau Pichon Longueville, since the death of Baron Joseph de Longueville Lalande in 1850, the property was divided into two Chateaux, Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron and Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. Since then, Chateau Pichon Lalande stayed in the same family for more than 250 years. In 2007, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing…

    Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux 2016

    March 26, 2018 /

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is a rising star in Vosne Romanee. Charles Lachaux took over the estate from his father in 2012, and he implemented substantial changes to the Domaine in 2013. Such as high percentage of whole cluster, lowered the percentage of new oak and most importantly changing the viticultural regime. Charles Lachaux is a huge fan of madam Lalou Bize-Leroy from Domaine d’Auvenay, and Charles has been experimenting with letting the top branch grow and weaving them down for the past five years. Charles Lachaux said by leaving the top branches of the vines unpruned on the vineyard, the roots reaches deeper underground and the grapes ripen around 7-10 days…

Jean-Marc Boillot (also known as J. M. Boillot) is the grandson of Henri Boillot as well as the maternal grandson of Etienne Sauzet. Jean-Marc Boillot worked with his grandfather Henri Boillot, his father Jean and his brother (also named Henri) at the Domaine Henri Boillot since 1967. In 1984, Jean-Marc left the domaine after a family disagreement and worked as a winemaker at Olivier Leflaive for 4 years while also making wines from 2 ha of vineyards under his own label. Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet 2016

    March 13, 2018 /

Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet is to some extend a merger between Domaine Berthaut and Domaine Gerbet in 2015. Young and enthusiastic Amélie Berthaut took over her father Denis Berthaut at Domaine Berthaut in 2013 after completing a degree in University of Bordeaux. At the same time, Amélie inherited some vineyards from her mother Marie-Andrée Gerbet (who co-owns Domaine François Gerbet with her sister Chantal Gerbet). Domaine Berthaut is one of the most well-known and established estates in Fixin, owning 13 hectares of vineyards spread across Fixin and Gevrey Chambertin. Amélie Berthaut is also blessed with some of the most sought-after vineyards in Vosne Romanee from her mother’s side, such as Vosne Romanee Les…

    Maison Harbour

    March 12, 2018 /

Maison Harbour is one of the greatest discoveries I have made in Burgundy. When I first heard of Maison Harbour, I intrinsically didn’t take it serious enough to track down one of their bottles sooner (Let’s be honest, the term ‘Maison’ is not as favoured as ‘Domaine’ for many of us Burgundy drinkers)… I was wrong on this… The truth is, not a lot of people are lucky enough to have Grand Cru vineyard inheritance from their grandparents or have extra multi-million euros to spare for buying sought-after vineyards in Burgundy. Established in 2013 by Nicolas and Colleen Harbour, a married couple originally from the US and Canada. Their story…

    Domaine Hubert Lamy

    March 12, 2018 /

When I was in Burgundy a couple of weeks ago, I heard many young generation winemakers recommending Domaine Hubert Lamy wines, they all said Olivier Lamy is making some of the best wines from Saint Aubin and it is a must-try. I have to admit Domaine Hubert Lamy is completely new to me but after tasting my first Domaine Hubert Lamy wines last week, I am sold! Olivier Lamy, the son of Hubert Lamy is making one of the most outstanding wines in Saint Aubin if not the entire Cote de Beaune, Olivier Lamy has not only put Domaine Hubert Lamy on the map, but also pushed the boundaries of…

    Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux 2015

    March 11, 2018 /

A new beginning for a new generation of winemakers in Burgundy. Charles Lachaux is among the group of new generation winemakers in Burgundy that are innovative whilst staying true to the tradition. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux was founded in 1858. The estate is blessed with some of the finest vineyards in Vosne Romanee, including four Grand Crus and five Premier Crus. Robert Arnoux’s son in law, Pascal Lachaux ran the estate from 1987 to 2012. During those years, Pascal applied 100% new oak in the Grand Cru wines, 100% destemmed, sufficient extraction and organic to biodynamic practices in the vineyards. In 2012, the son of Pascal Lachaux, Charles Lachaux took over the…

    Domaine Jacques Prieur

    March 10, 2018 /

Domaine Jacques Prieur is pretty much the only family-run Domaine in Burgundy with that many exclusive vineyards. No one in Burgundy has such an impressive list of Grand Cru vineyards like Domaine Jacques Prieur. Musigny, Le Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Echezeaux, Clos Vougeot, Corton-Bressandes, Corton Charlemagne, Chevalier Montrachet and Le Montrachet. Domaine Jacques Prieur in Meursault was established in 1870. Like many other estates, they have had its ups and downs over the past century.Jean-Pierre Labruyère bought 70% of the stake in 1988 from the Prieur family, and the remaining 30% is still owned by the Prieur family. Jean-Pierre Labruyère spent a lot of time and money to improve the…
