    Domaine Ramonet

Domaine Ramonet is one of the finest producers in Burgundy, known for the Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet village to Montrachet Grand Cru. Domaine Ramonet has been producing consistently high quality Chardonnay in Chassagne Montrachet for 3 generations, it is difficult to talk about Chassagne Montrachet without mentioning Ramonet. Brief History Pierre Ramonet came to Burgundy in the late 1920s with nothing more than a knapsack, he started off buying grapes and vinifying them, then later buying his first vineyard in the 1930s. Domaine Ramonet gained a lot of attention very soon after bottling his first wines in his estate. Clive Cotes even wrote ‘Ramonet in white is the equivalent of…

    Domaine Leflaive 2015

An extensive tasting note on 2015 Domaine Leflaive from the midweek-drinking Macon-Verze to the highly regarded Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru. It was a pleasure to taste the 2015 Domaine Leflaive wines with Brice de La Morandière, the managing director of Domaine Leflaive. Brice is also the nephew of the late Anne-Claude Leflaive, he was appointed position by shareholders after the death of Anne-Claude Leflaive. Vintage Note 2015 was a warm and sunny vintage in Burgundy, most producers made excellent wines from Pinot Noir. White wine producers had to work hard this year to avoid making flabby and overripe wines. Since World War II, there has only been three vintages where…

    The Disappearing Jacky Truchot

Domaine Jacky Truchot, or sometimes seen as Domaine Truchot-Martin is one of the legendary producers in Burgundy. Jacky Truchot is famed for producing incredibly pure and fragrant Pinot Noir from Morey Saint Denis as well as a few Gevrey Chambertin and a Chambolle Musigny. Sadly Jacky Truchot retired after the 2005 vintage and sold all except one of his vineyards to David Duband through an investor. Jacky kept a small section of his Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Les Sorbes for his own consumption. 2005 was the last vintage of Jacky Truchot wines that are commercially available, his wines are as rare as hen’s teeth. Brief History Jacky Truchot joined…

    Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux 2016

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is a rising star in Vosne Romanee. Charles Lachaux took over the estate from his father in 2012, and he implemented substantial changes to the Domaine in 2013. Such as high percentage of whole cluster, lowered the percentage of new oak and most importantly changing the viticultural regime. Charles Lachaux is a huge fan of madam Lalou Bize-Leroy from Domaine d’Auvenay, and Charles has been experimenting with letting the top branch grow and weaving them down for the past five years. Charles Lachaux said by leaving the top branches of the vines unpruned on the vineyard, the roots reaches deeper underground and the grapes ripen around 7-10 days…

    Maison Harbour

Maison Harbour is one of the greatest discoveries I have made in Burgundy. When I first heard of Maison Harbour, I intrinsically didn’t take it serious enough to track down one of their bottles sooner (Let’s be honest, the term ‘Maison’ is not as favoured as ‘Domaine’ for many of us Burgundy drinkers)… I was wrong on this… The truth is, not a lot of people are lucky enough to have Grand Cru vineyard inheritance from their grandparents or have extra multi-million euros to spare for buying sought-after vineyards in Burgundy. Established in 2013 by Nicolas and Colleen Harbour, a married couple originally from the US and Canada. Their story…

    Domaine Hubert Lamy

When I was in Burgundy a couple of weeks ago, I heard many young generation winemakers recommending Domaine Hubert Lamy wines, they all said Olivier Lamy is making some of the best wines from Saint Aubin and it is a must-try. I have to admit Domaine Hubert Lamy is completely new to me but after tasting my first Domaine Hubert Lamy wines last week, I am sold! Olivier Lamy, the son of Hubert Lamy is making one of the most outstanding wines in Saint Aubin if not the entire Cote de Beaune, Olivier Lamy has not only put Domaine Hubert Lamy on the map, but also pushed the boundaries of…

    Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux 2015

A new beginning for a new generation of winemakers in Burgundy. Charles Lachaux is among the group of new generation winemakers in Burgundy that are innovative whilst staying true to the tradition. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux was founded in 1858. The estate is blessed with some of the finest vineyards in Vosne Romanee, including four Grand Crus and five Premier Crus. Robert Arnoux’s son in law, Pascal Lachaux ran the estate from 1987 to 2012. During those years, Pascal applied 100% new oak in the Grand Cru wines, 100% destemmed, sufficient extraction and organic to biodynamic practices in the vineyards. In 2012, the son of Pascal Lachaux, Charles Lachaux took over the…
